Model Context Protocol

Open standard that connects AI assistants to external tools, data sources, and services through a universal integration layer

Model Context Protocol (MCP) gives AI tools a standard way to connect with your existing software. Instead of building custom integrations for each AI assistant, MCP provides one protocol that works across platforms.

MCP matters for small businesses because it removes the biggest barrier to AI adoption: getting AI tools to actually work with your data. You can connect AI assistants to your CRM, project management tools, databases, and file systems through pre-built MCP servers.

The ecosystem already includes servers for Google Drive, Slack, GitHub, PostgreSQL, and hundreds of other tools. Each server handles authentication, data formatting, and error handling so you don’t have to build these from scratch.

At Devin The Coach, we use MCP to connect AI assistants directly to client project tools. This turns AI from a standalone chatbot into a team member that reads your docs, checks your dashboards, and takes action in your actual systems.
